I have been thatching for 35 years having trained with S J Letch Master Thatcher and I have Cosira City n Guilds  though Nuston Hall. I joined the association in 1994.

I have worked with many different Master Thatchers from the Association over the years, experiencing different styles and skill sets.

I use thatching in the technics of traditional drum threshed long straw synonymous with East Anglia and water reed. I grow and harvest long straw in the traditional manor with a binder stooking then put through a threshing drum.
I have been thatching since 1982 under Stephen Letch, attending Cosira thatching  course at Knuston Hall tutored by Peter Brocket, Geof King and Roger Yates for 2 years gaining a City and Guilds.
I thatched throughout the 1980s and early 90s with Stephen Letch working on many roofs both in water reed and long straw from RHS barns at Hyde Hall to Cressing Temple Barns.
I worked on the winning entries to the Suffolk Master Thatching Association best thatch competition in both reed and long straw during this time.
I became Master Thatcher in the Association and held roles as treasurer and chairman for several  years .

I generally work within a 40 mile radius of Chelmsford
